Chapter 8
The morning finally came, and Sky returned home to help his father, though his mind was still occupied with what had happened the night before. He couldn't shake the feeling of Nani's gentleness.
As he entered the kitchen, his father gave him a quick look.
"You didn't come home last night?" his father asked casually, looking at Sky over his shoulder as he prepared breakfast.
Sky's face flushed a little, his mind racing for an explanation. "I... I stayed at a friend's place." he said quickly, but the slight pink hue on his cheeks didn't go unnoticed.
His father, ever perceptive, raised an eyebrow. "Stayed over, huh? Must be serious if you're spending the night at someone's house." he teased, thinking Sky was dating someone.
Sky fumbled with his words, trying to change the subject. "It's nothing like that, just... a little late, and the rain was really strong."
His father chuckled, still none the wiser, and gave Sky a knowing smile. "Sure, sure. Just make sure to be careful, son."
Later, after finishing his delivery, Sky found himself thinking about Nani again. He wanted to check on his foot, to make sure it was okay after the incident last night. But instead of just calling, he made a decision: he'd go to the company. He couldn't just leave things hanging. He had to see for himself if Nani was really alright Since Nani refused to go to the hospital.
--
Nani wasn't moving around much. He was sitting in his office, clearly trying to work despite the pain in his foot. Win and Dew had been hovering around, trying to get him to take a break, but Nani had insisted he could manage. So with no choice, Win and Dew get their thing to work in Nani's office so when Nani wants something they could help.
His concentration was broken when his secretary knocked lightly on the door, poking her head inside. "Khun Nani." she said "Sky is asking to meet with you."
Nani blinked, He had expected a call, but this... was a bit unexpected. He hesitated for a moment before he could make up his mind, he found himself speaking without thinking.
"Let him in." Nani said, his voice softer than usual. It wasn't a command, just an automatic response that he couldn't really explain.
His secretary nodded and stepped out of the room, quickly returning with Sky a moment later.
Sky entered, looking slightly unsure as he glanced around the room. His eyes immediately landed on Nani, who was sitting at his desk, trying not to show how much pain he was in.
" I just wanted to make sure you're alright. You didn't go to the hospital last night, so... I thought I should come by and check on you."
Nani raised an eyebrow, a little surprised by the concern in Sky's voice. He couldn't remember the last time someone had made such an effort to check on him like this.
"I'm fine." Nani replied, brushing off the concern. "It's just a little cut. Nothing serious." But Sky didn't look convinced.
Sky stepped closer, his gaze softening. "You really should rest. If you don't take care of it, it might get worse."
Nani sighed, not used to being on the receiving end of this kind of attention. He had always been the one taking care of others, never the one being looked after. It felt... strange. But also, oddly comforting.
"I'll be fine." Nani repeated.
Win and Dew exchanged a glance, clearly sensing the tension between the two. Dew grinned mischievously, breaking the silence. "Well, it looks like you two have things to explain. why Nani's leg got wound and why sky is here?"
Sky's face turned slightly pink at Dew's teasing words, while Nani shot him a sharp glare. "It's nothing."
Win crossed his arms, smirking. "Oh? Nothing? Then why does Sky look like he's been caught sneaking into his crush's office?"
Sky's ears burned red, and he quickly shook his head. "That's not—! I just came to check on him! He got hurt because of me, so I—"
"Ohhh, because of you?" Dew dragged out the words, his grin widening. "So, you spent the night together and Nani ended up injured? Sounds very interesting."
Sky's mouth opened, then shut. He felt like anything he said would only dig a deeper hole for himself.
Nani sighed "You two have too much free time, don't you?"
Win and Dew looked at each other, then nodded in perfect sync. "Yeah, pretty much."
Sky cleared his throat, still flustered. "Anyway! I just wanted to see if you were okay, and now I have, so... I'll go." He took a small step back, but Win's voice stopped him.
"You came all this way, Might as well stay for a bit." Win said as he looking at Nani.
Sky hesitate. Win and Dew, sensing something unspoken between the two, exchanged one last knowing glance before backing off.
"We'll leave you two lovebirds alone." Win said with a smirk.
"Win!" Nani sputtered, but Win and Dew were already walking out, laughing between themselves.
As the door clicked shut, silence filled the room again. Sky glanced at Nani, who simply shook his head. "They're impossible." Nani muttered.
Sky let out a small chuckle. "Yeah... but they're not wrong about you needing to rest."
Nani leaned back in his chair, watching Sky carefully. "And you? You barely got any sleep last night either."
Sky blinked, caught off guard by Nani's words. He hadn't expected Nani to notice.
"I... I'll be fine." Sky said, echoing Nani's earlier words.
Nani smirked slightly. "You sound just like me." Sky huffed "Then you should know how frustrating it is when someone won't take care of themselves."
Nani paused, then let out a quiet chuckle. "Alright, I get it. I'll be careful."
"You can eat the dessert Win brought." Nani said, glancing at the small box on the table nearby.
Sky nodded and picked up a piece, taking a bite. His eyes widened slightly in surprise at the taste, sweeter and richer than he expected. Nani, who had been watching out of the corner of his eye, noticed his reaction before turning back to his work.
Wanting Nani to try it too, Sky walked over to his desk and held out a spoonful. Still focused on his documents, Nani absentmindedly took the bite without looking up.
Sky froze.
For a second, he just stood there, his mind going blank as he watched Nani chew, completely unaware of what just happened.
"Huh?" he asked, noticing Sky standing completely still, the spoon still in his hand.
Sky snapped out of his daze, quickly pulling the spoon back. He turned away, his face burning. "I just... wasn't expecting you to eat it so fast."
Nani raised an eyebrow, not quite understanding why Sky was acting so flustered. "You told me to try it, so I did."
Sky gulped, trying to ignore the warmth creeping up his neck. "Right... of course."
Nani studied him for a second before shrugging and returning to his work. "It's good. You should finish the rest."
Sky nodded stiffly and quickly sat back down, shoving another spoonful into his mouth, not because he was hungry, but because he needed a distraction.
Meanwhile, Nani, without realizing it, found himself stealing quick glances at Sky. The way his cheeks puffed slightly while chewing, the way he tried so hard to act normal... it was oddly amusing.
And maybe, just maybe, a little cute.
Nani had been trying to keep his distance from Sky. That had been the start. But somehow, no matter how much he tried to push away, Sky only seemed to get pulled in even more.
It was frustrating.
But also... amusing.
Nani worked until the last bit of daylight disappeared, only realizing how late it had gotten when he stretched and glanced at the clock. With a sigh, he turned his head, only to find Sky curled up on the couch, fast asleep.
For a moment, Nani just stood there, watching him. The usual energetic and stubborn Sky looked strangely peaceful like this, his brows relaxed, his breathing slow and steady. Nani sighed again, this time softer.
"Sky, wake up." he said, his voice low as he gently nudged Sky's shoulder.
But instead of waking up, Sky groaned sleepily and before Nani could react. Sky reached out, grabbed Nani by the waist, and pulled him in, hugging Nani tightly like he was a pillow.
Nani stiffened. His hands hovered awkwardly in the air, unsure whether to push Sky away or just let him be. A warm breath tickled his shoulder as Sky snuggled in closer.
...This little kid.
He stayed still for a moment, debating, before deciding enough was enough. With a smirk, Nani raised his hand and gave Sky's cheek a firm (but not too hard) punch.
"Wake up, dumbass." he said, amusement lacing his voice.
Sky groaned, slowly blinking awake. His arms were still wrapped around Nani's waist, and it took a few seconds for his sleepy brain to catch up.
Then, his eyes widened.
"...What are you doing!?" Sky yelped, practically throwing himself backward.
Nani rolled his eyes. "I should be asking you that."
Sky's face burned. "I—I was asleep! I didn't know!"
Nani just smirked and stood up. Just as Sky was still recovering from the embarrassment, the office door suddenly swung open.
"Oi, why is the light still on? Are you two secretly plotting something in here?" Win's teasing voice filled the room as he and Dew stepped inside.
Sky practically jumped, while Nani just sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Do you two not know how to knock?"
Dew raised an eyebrow at the scene in front of him. Sky sitting on the couch looking flustered, Nani standing way too close with a smirk on his face. A knowing grin crept onto Dew's lips.
"Are we interrupting something?"
Sky immediately waved his hands. "N-No! I was just—uh—sleeping! And then Nani—" He stopped mid-sentence, realizing that explaining would only make it worse.
Win crossed his arms, clearly enjoying the situation. "Sleeping, huh? On whose shoulder?"
Sky's face burned. "I—That's—" He turned to Nani, silently pleading for help.
But Nani, of course, was no help at all. He just smirked and leaned against his desk. Sky let out an offended noise, while Win and Dew burst into laughter. "So? Are you staying the night again, Sky?"
"NO!" Sky shouted. "I'm going home!"
Nani chuckled. "Sure. If you can even walk straight after panicking this much."
