Rachel's POV

"Kacy, stop holding back. I can see it in your eyes that this is not the full story." She looked down to avoid my piercing gaze, why cant she just tell me? She didn't say anything so I continued.

"A-and your scent, it changed more specifically I can smell two different scents on you." The tension in the air spiked even higher when I mentioned that, I can feel how much my words are effecting her right now but I need the full story.

"I cant just tell you! It doesn't work that way... even if I do would you believe me? Probably not." She murmured the last part but I still heard what she said regardless, it hurts knowing my mate is having trouble opening up.

A weird pang and ache arrived in my gut, there it goes again...

Kacy must've noticed my discomfort because she said something that I couldn't quite register before the sirens went off, blaring into the air canceling out the cheers for the Kopeals.

Both of us snapped our heads to the door opening, it was a knight but he looked... distressed? What about the Kopeals? Our kingdom is being attacked while a royal family is here!

"Hurry your majesties! We must leave now, the kingdom is under attack!" He yelled out to us.

I stood up out of instinct, my wolf was begging to be let out. To fight. Jae normally doesn't like to fight unless for good purposes or emergencies... I'm so confused, what's happening?

Kacy was still frozen by my side, it seems as if her mind shut down and went into a defensive mode. "Kacy?! Love! Come on we need to go now!" When she didn't react I grabbed her carrying her bridal style. The knight was still by the door seeming to be guarding the area, "Please let's go, they are coming!"

As we were running down the halls filled with screams and blood I caught a glimpse of the outside chaos through a blood-splattered window. It's them.. I shook my thoughts away, I have my mate in my arms who seems to be frozen and startled I cannot afford to be distracted.

"Over here!" I rushed to where the knight ran to which is a room filled with peculiar things like different toys, diapers, and clothes. I've never seen this room while I was here..

I ran inside and the knight closed the door, he pointed to the window. "If we are attacked then go out the window try to land on the hay right below and run not to the forest but to civilization. Blend in."

A bang interrupted us, someone was right outside our door. Kacy seemed to have returned to reality, she was groaning and moving around. "Fuck!!" The knight violently muttered.

"There are 5 of them outside the door, that knight cannot hold them off for even a second but you can, Rachel. You are capable of that, it is what you and I were bonded to do. Protect the people."

Shit.. I don't know what to do! I am not leaving my mate alone with one guard but we would have no chance of survival if I am not the one holding them back... my brain was so panicked that I didn't even care of the voice that spoke, that didn't matter right now.

"Take her and go." I spoke to the brute knight sternly, he looked into my eyes with an emotion that screams, 'Trust me, I will protect them.' My heart relaxed a little.

After a couple of protests from my mate and screams of sadness from her they were gone. It was just me in the baby room I began to call it. My heart and whole body was fueled with encouragement, a motive to survive and return back to my mate and what I guessed was my baby.

Is that why she was scared to tell me?

I wasn't given enough time to dwell in my thoughts about that when my necklace starting glowing, no this was different. It wasn't glowing.

It was breaking...

Large shines of green light flashed through the cracks, a dragon that barely fit the rooms ceiling height was before me.

"Little child, I must say I enjoy your dedication and determination but I shall take it from here. Run to your mate, she is in trouble."

The door burst open before I was even given a chance to speak once more, I ran towards the window and jumped landing on the hay. Bursts of fire and the smell of burning flesh invaded my senses, screams and yells that sounded like commands were being thrown out.

There was still a bunch of lingering questions in my mind, some I answered myself. I assume we are being attacked by the shadow figures, but where are the Kopeals?

My mind was swirling with questions until I noticed the chaos stopped, a large shadow casted over me. The Tyche dragon!

"Hurry you slow being, I cannot afford to lose my masters great great great great granddaughter." He gestured me to follow him so I did.

"What's your name..?" I questioned silently.

"Ethelmire."

Wait... he's connected to Kacy..?

Whatever, I need to find her right now. I shifted to my wolf and ran for my life, we found a tree that had her scent on it. Oh hell no.

Searching and panicking is not a good duo, Kacy is in the forest where those enemies are the strongest...

I forced my legs to move faster to reach her before someone else does. I cannot imagine what would happen if they got their hands on my mate. It was a indirect way to weaken me, that is their goal after all.

Judging by all these people coming after me I figured they were trying to catch me. For what? No idea but I don't want to find out.

Her scent picked up strongly out of nowhere, 'Hurry!' Jae said.

I stumbled upon a clearing with bushes hiding a ladder to a treehouse, she's in there. She has to be.

In records speed I climbed that ladder as if it was a sport, before I could even step foot inside a bunch of spears were held out infront of me.

"Who are you!?" I could see her in there being treated by two females, there were some guys in there as well but right now they were holding spears right at my throat.

I found her...

What I didn't notice was Ethelmire being caught in a dance of fire with another beast long before I reached here.
