Chapter 39: Jealousy Looks Good on You
Shen Yu told himself he wasn't jealous.
Absolutely not.
He just happened to be walking by the library when he noticed Bai Xue sitting far too close to Lu Zhixuan, leaning in with a smile as they looked at something together. It wasn't a big deal. Just classmates studying. Nothing to get worked up over.
But then Bai Xue giggled, brushing her hair behind her ear, and Lu Zhixuan—who barely tolerated most people—didn't even move away.
Something inside Shen Yu snapped.
Before he knew what he was doing, he stormed over, slamming his books onto the table with more force than necessary. "Don't you have other people to bother?" he snapped, glaring directly at Lu Zhixuan.
Lu Zhixuan barely blinked, turning to him with an infuriatingly calm expression. "Didn't know you were so eager to study with me."
Shen Yu bristled. "I just don't want Bai Xue to suffer through your presence."
Bai Xue, bless her meddling soul, rested her chin on her hand, clearly entertained. "Wow, you two have a really special dynamic."
Shen Yu shot her a glare, but before he could say anything, Lu Zhixuan leaned closer, resting his elbow on the table and propping his chin up with his hand. His gaze was locked onto Shen Yu, sharp yet amused.
"Admit it, Zhao Rui. You missed me."
Shen Yu's breath hitched. Too close. Too smug. Too—
He forced himself to scowl. "In your dreams."
Lu Zhixuan smirked, tilting his head slightly. "I'll be waiting, then."
Shen Yu's face burned as Bai Xue giggled behind her hand. He hated everything.
But mostly, he hated how his heart wouldn't stop racing.
