Chapter 40: Caught Red-Handed
Shen Yu thought he was safe.
He thought he could suppress whatever weird feelings had been bubbling up inside him. He thought that if he ignored the way his heart acted stupid around Lu Zhixuan, it would eventually go away.
Then, somehow, he found himself lingering outside Lu Zhixuan's dorm room in the dead of night.
He had no idea how he got here. He had just been walking—thinking—and suddenly, his feet had carried him to this door. He stared at it, hesitating.
"What am I even doing?" he muttered, shaking his head. I should go before—
The door swung open.
Shen Yu froze.
Lu Zhixuan leaned lazily against the doorframe, arms crossed, an infuriatingly smug smirk playing at his lips. His hair was slightly tousled, his shirt loose, as if he had just rolled out of bed.
"Didn't know you liked midnight visits," he drawled.
Shen Yu nearly choked on air. "I—I was just passing by!"
Lu Zhixuan raised an eyebrow. "In front of my dorm?"
Shen Yu stiffened, crossing his arms. "You don't own this hallway."
Lu Zhixuan took a slow step forward, the amusement in his eyes deepening. "So, are you coming in, or do you want to keep looking suspicious?"
Shen Yu opened his mouth to argue—but nothing came out. His brain had completely short-circuited. Why was this happening? Why was he like this?
Then, to his horror, his feet moved on their own.
Lu Zhixuan stepped aside as Shen Yu marched stiffly into the room, refusing to meet his gaze. The door clicked shut behind him, and before he could regret all of his life choices, Lu Zhixuan's voice came from just behind him—low, teasing.
"Guess you really did miss me."
Shen Yu's face burned as he turned to glare at him. "Shut up."
Lu Zhixuan just chuckled, clearly enjoying every second of his suffering.
