RUN.
The moment Doey's monstrous form lunged from the rubble, there was no time to think. No time to hesitate.
He turned and sprinted.
SLAM.
A massive claw tore through the concrete behind him, sending shards flying past his head. The tunnel walls trembled as the mutated Doey let out a guttural, inhuman roar. The sound rattled his bones.
He ran faster.
The tunnel ahead twisted into a narrow passage, forcing him to duck under a collapsing beam. Behind him, Doey's monstrous form barreled forward, limbs contorting unnaturally as he chased.
Faster.
He veered left into the Safe Haven storage room, barely slipping through the half-open door before-
CRASH!
Doey slammed into the entrance behind him, sending cracks racing through the metal. He didn't slow down. His eyes locked onto the elevator ahead. If he could just-
BANG.
A clawed hand lunged for him.
He leapt into the elevator and slammed the switch. The gears screeched in protest, but the lift began to rise.
Too late.
Doey grabbed the edge.
"NO!"
He kicked at his fingers, but Doey held firm, his deformed heads snarling through rows of jagged teeth.
The elevator groaned under the weight.
SNAP.
With a sickening crunch, the mechanical doors closed-crushing Doey's fingers.
The creature howled.
Doey's mangled hand tore away, and he plummeted.
He gasped, chest heaving as the elevator continued to ascend.
Too close.
DING.
The doors slid open.
He bolted out, heart pounding as he sprinted toward the cable car station. The air was thick with smoke, the remnants of the explosion still settling.
There-
A hook.
He didn't think. He just jumped.
ZIP!
The wind ripped past him as he slid down the cable line, Safe Haven shrinking beneath him. His fingers burned from gripping the hook, his muscles screaming in protest.
The descent was rough-too fast.
Then-impact.
He hit the ground hard, rolling onto the cold rock floor. Pain lanced up his side, but he had no time to register it because-
A sickening thud sounded behind him.
Doey had landed.
"MOVE!"
He scrambled up and bolted through the archway to the right.
The ground beneath him shuddered.
The tunnel was collapsing.
The rocks cracked and caved in, splitting apart as he raced forward, barely dodging the debris crashing down around him. Ahead-a hole in the rock.
Crawl through it.
He threw himself forward, dragging himself through the narrow gap. The tunnel walls groaned, the space shrinking as rubble fell behind him. He was halfway through when-
A claw wrapped around his leg.
"NO-!"
Doey's grip was iron-tight, his grotesque heads snarling as they yanked him back. His fingers clawed at the dirt, legs thrashing against the creature's hold.
CRACK.
A boulder dislodged from the ceiling.
It crashed down-straight onto Doey's arm.
SPLAT.
The monster screeched, its grip loosening just enough for the Player to kick free.
He crawled forward-
Scrambled out.
Gasped for air.
He had made it.
But there was no time to rest.
The industrial zone stretched ahead-a massive, open cavern filled with rusted machinery, towering cranes, and conveyor belts lined with tools.
Tools he could use.
Because Doey was coming.
A guttural roar shook the cavern as Doey emerged from the tunnel, his twisted, reptilian body towering in the dim light.
His heads snarled, saliva dripping from their jagged maws.
There was no reasoning with him.
He had to be stopped.
His eyes flickered to the liquid nitrogen canisters stacked nearby. If he could freeze him, he could do damage.
THUD.
Doey charged.
He then dove to the side, grabbing a canister and hurling it as hard as he could.
BOOM.
The tank burst open, spraying liquid nitrogen across Doey's mutated skin. The creature screamed, parts of his body freezing over as ice crystallized along his limbs.
Now-the saws.
He sprinted toward the nearest industrial saw, yanking the lever as the massive blade whirred to life.
Doey shook off the ice, furious. He lunged-
CRUNCH.
Doey stumbled into the saw's path.
The blade tore into his side, sending a spray of blackened blood across the floor.
But-
The monster reeled back, snarling-then, suddenly, it climbed the crane.
His stomach dropped.
Oh shit!
SPLAT.
Chunks of dough rained from above as Doey spewed projectiles, the acidic mass sizzling against the metal floor.
He dodged left, weaving between falling debris.
Too slow.
A glob of acid grazed his arm, burning through fabric and searing his skin. He bit back a scream and ran.
Doey leaped down, landing right in front of him.
Its hands sank into the ground.
And then-
Small, deformed hands erupted from the floor.
They grasped at his legs, clawing and grabbing, trying to drag him down.
He didn't hesitate-he sprinted through, dodging their reach.
Doey roared in frustration.
"GIVE ME THE OMNI HAND!!"
Then-
It lunged, seizing him in its monstrous jaws.
Pain.
Darkness.
He struggled, his limbs pinned, his ears ringing from the monstrous growls around him.
Inside Doey's mouth, three sets of eyes glared at him-Jack, Matthew, Kevin.
He reached for his gun-aimed.
Fired.
The heads shrieked, momentarily stunned. The grip loosened just enough for him to break free-
Except this time, it didn't work.
Doey's teeth tightened.
NO-
His eyes darted around-a nitrogen canister.
Still lodged in Doey's skull.
He fired at it.
BOOM.
A shockwave of frost burst outward, freezing Doey's head solid.
The Player dropped to the ground, gasping. He didn't hesitate-he grabbed the saw nearby, yanked the switch, and-
CRUNCH.
The blade tore through the ice, shattering Doey's frozen head.
For a moment, silence.
Then-his body melted away.
The Player staggered back, heart pounding, breath ragged. His fingers trembled as he lowered his weapon.
Was it over?
He swallowed hard, kneeling beside the remains. "Oh, Doey... I'm so sorry... But if I didn't stop you... it would've been me."
His voice barely carried in the vast, echoing chamber.
But there was no time to mourn.
He needed to get out.
He forced himself up, limbs aching as he climbed through the wreckage of the industrial zone. Smoke clung to the air, the scent of scorched metal and nitrogen burning his lungs.
He reached the top level.
A faint green light flickered ahead-an alarm.
An exit.
His legs screamed in protest, but he pushed forward, following the beacon through the narrow corridor.
A door loomed ahead.
Two deactivated Grab Pack scanners stood on either side. He stepped forward, lifting his hands to the panels-
Then-
A shadow moved behind him.
A sudden cold chill ran down his spine.
Before he could turn-
BANG!
A monstrous hand snatched him from the ground.
The world blurred.
Crushing pressure wrapped around his ribs, his feet dangling.
"GAAH-!"
The grip tightened. His vision became spotted.
Doey's voice snarled, guttural and broken.
"YOU-YOU AND POPPY!! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!"
He struggled, clawing at the monstrous fingers crushing him.
"Doey-STOP! It's not like that! You're being used-!"
Doey's breath burned hot against his face. His heads snapped and twitched, his form even more grotesque than before.
"WANT TO KILL YOU. KILL EVERYONE WHO HURTS ME!! RIP YOU TO LITTLE PIECES!"
He thrashed violently, slamming the him against the walls.
"AGH-!"
Pain exploded through his spine as he hit the metal, his vision flashing white. He couldn't breathe.
Then-
CLANG!
Doey's wild movements smashed into a nitrogen canister.
It burst open.
A cloud of frost engulfed them both.
Doey shuddered, freezing for a moment-just long enough.
He gasped for air, adrenaline kicking in. He reached for his weapon-
Fired.
The nitrogen hit Doey dead center, forcing him to recoil, his grip loosening.
Now!
He kicked free, grabbing the massive industrial lever.
Pulled.
The Crushing Machine roared to life.
Metal screeched. Gears rumbled. The platform shook.
Doey realized too late.
His massive form was slowly flattening.
"NO-NO, NO, NO!!!"
His claws scrambled, his eyes wild with terror.
"CAN'T TRUST ANYONE!!!"
He held against the platform, desperate to stop the crushing fate ahead.
"THE GENTLE VOICES LIE!! YOU LIE!!"
He backed away, heart hammering. "I never lied to you, Doey-this isn't what I wanted!"
Doey's rage twisted into anguish.
"I tried to be better... to be who they needed... But I wasn't smart enough... not good enough... NOT-"
SLAM.
The machine lurched downward-
Then-everything stopped.
Silence.
The gears locked.
The metal arms froze mid-motion. The power had been cut and the machine never completed its final blow.
His stomach dropped.
No. No, no, no-
Doey's shadow rose.
