CHAPTER 3 – WATCHING OVER HER

I thought about her every night.

She had saved me, looked at me with kindness when no one else did.

But kindness wasn’t enough. I wanted to know her.

What she liked, what she hated. What made her smile. What made her sad. I wanted everything.

So, for the past week, I followed her.

Day 1 – Learning Her Routine

Aurora was predictable.

She always reached college exactly five minutes before class started. Never late, never too early.

After lectures, she went to a private tutoring session for advanced finance, even though she was already good at it.

She liked to study in the library, sitting near the window where the sunlight hit the table just right.

Sometimes, she tapped her pen against her lips when she was deep in thought.

She wasn’t like the others.

She didn’t waste time gossiping in the hallways. She didn’t flirt with men.

But they all stared at her.

Like she was something to devour.

And I hated it.

Day 3 – Her Friends

Her so-called friends were leeches.

They clung to her, smiling, laughing... but I could see it. The way their eyes flickered when she paid for their food.

The way they treated her presence like a ticket to privilege.

They weren’t friends. They were users.

And she didn’t even realize.

Every time they asked for money, she gave it. Every time they laughed at something she said, it was fake.

I wanted to pull her away from them. I wanted to make her see how pathetic they were.

But I couldn’t. Not yet.

Day 5 – The Men Around Her

I clenched my fists.

She was walking to class, unaware of the way every man in the corridor turned their heads. Their eyes dragged over her body, some whispering to each other, some just staring.

I wanted to rip their eyes out.

I had never hit anyone before. Not my father, not the bullies. No matter how many times they hurt me, I never fought back.

Because my mother’s voice was always in my head. “Never hurt people, Adrian. You’re better than that.”

But this…

This was different.

They weren’t hurting me. They were hurting her.

And that made my blood boil.

Day 7 – Talking to Her

I needed to talk to her.

I had spent a whole week watching, listening, waiting. I just needed to find the right moment.

So when I saw her standing alone outside the library, I took a step forward.

Before I could say anything...

"Adrian?"

I froze.

She was smiling. She had spoken first. Again.

My heartbeat pounded in my ears.

"You always sit in the corner during lunch," she said, tilting her head. "Do you not like eating in the canteen?"

My throat was dry. I struggled to find my voice.

"It’s… too loud," I muttered.

She laughed softly. "Yeah, it is. I don’t like it much either."

She didn’t leave. She stood there, talking to me.

And I wanted to keep her here forever.
