Nick sat in the living room of your apartment as you were in your room changing into some blue jeans, a white top and an oversized Nissan racing jacket.
"Let's go," you say as you grab your keys. Nick gets up before stopping in his tracks once he sees you. You had your hair curled and untied, your usual natural makeup and almost matched his outfit.
"You need to stop copying my style," he joked. You looked at him, seeing how you both were basically matching.
"You're wearing black jeans, but I think this was my style first." You both head down to your car, he knew you were racing tonight and wouldn't let you go alone.
You pulled into the lot, parking next to Jenna's car. You both get out and you go to hug Jenna as Nick does the typical bro-hug with Lion. You shook Lion's hand as Jenna asked, "So who are you racing babe?"
You look at Lion for an answer, "Um they haven't revealed who to me yet. Just said you were in."
And now you had an uneasy feeling in your stomach.
"Lion, mate you can't just set her up like that," Nick said.
"To make matters worse," Lion started and Nick's head snapped back at him as he was scanning the area, "Ronnie and his crew are here."
Nick's look turned into a glare as Lion hid behind Jenna while you looked up at the ceiling, dreading this already.
"Mate, what the fuck," you say.
Then came over Zach, shaking Nick's hand before nodding at you.
You just looked at him unbothered, waiting for the news.
"You got a partner," he asked.
"For what?" You looked confused and turned to Nick who also had an uneasy look in his eyes but kept a hard look.
"Tag Race, first person runs the track then the second hops in and runs it." You whip back at Lion, narrowing your eyes at him as he tries his best to hide behind Jenna.
"I didn't know I swear," he rushed out.
Nick looked pissed, as Zach continued, "He didn't know. This was just set up. Although, it's Ronnie and his crew who want to race you."
Nick looked even more pissed hearing Ronnie's name as you looked back up saying, "Fucking hell mate, this just gets worse."
And on cue, Ronnie walks over with his gang.
"Well well, if it isn't little Nicky and little miss Jay," he taunts.
You and Nick both glared at him. Nick moved closer to you, standing slightly in front of you.
"What do you want," Nick spat.
Ronnie had a troublesome smile on his face, and said, "I just wanna race like little miss does."
"Your crew has lost races to her, you really wish to continue embarrassing yourselves yeah," Nick asked smirking at the man who was starting to show a little anger.
"What about you? You ran from our race, is little Nicky scared of a race," Ronnie taunts. Nick's smirk changed to a hardened glare.
"You wanna race," you say stepping forward, next to Nick. "Then let's race, you and your little bitch of a racer versus us." You looked at him with the challenge in your eyes.
"You chose the loser, let's race," Ronnie says, walking to his car.
"Babe, what the fuck are you doing," Jenna said feeling uneasy about this.
"Just trust me," you say before turning to Nick, "Let's go."
He looked down at you, clearly showing he was not happy with what you had done but followed.
You both get in the car and drive to the start of the track. You stayed in the car as Nick got out and walked over to the driver's side. You had your window down as he placed his arms and leaned forward.
"I've got Ronnie, but you be careful yeah," he said with concern. He was afraid inside, about something happening to you during this.
You looked at him and he saw the drive and determination in your eyes, something he admired about you, and you reassured him, "I've got this. Man's a bitch who yaps more than he can do."
Nick laughed as you smiled seeing him loosen up.
"I'll be here love, let's do this," he says with perseverance and you nod. He leans forward, kissing your cheek before stepping away from the car. You felt the heat rush to your cheeks but you kept yourself in control and locked in.
"Aw, does little miss need her good luck kiss from Nicky? I can give you one too," Ronnie smirks as Nick glares with his hand in a fist.
"Don't let him in your head," you remind him as he looks at you and his eyes soften. He nods as a girl comes forward to count down and start the race. You rev the car and so does your opponent.
Jenna who was sitting in Lion's lap had a look of worry over her face as she held Noah's hand. Noah leaned into Landon, also looking nervous while Landon rubbed her back to keep her calm.
"Are you ready," the girl yelled pointing at you.
You revved for an answer as she asked your opponent who did the same.
You watched the flag come down and you slam your foot down on the gas.
You and your opponent shifted gears, speeding down the track as you were slightly ahead.
You both drifted the corner, your car inches away from the other before swerving between the posts trying to keep Ronnie's crew away as they were trying to play dirty. Ronnie's boy caught up and you slammed the brakes, your car screeching to a stop and he swerved in front of you, missing the hit. You step back on the gas and zoom past, seeing Nick waiting at the finish line. His heart was racing and each near miss of a hit from Ronnie's boy made him hold his breath.
You drift a 180 and stop, setting the car facing straight to the track and hopping out while Nick rushes in and drives off. Noah and Jenna hug you as you watch, your body filling with fear and worry for Nick. Just as Nick drove off, Ronnie's boy parked and hopped out while Ronnie let out a long chain of curses at him as he got in the car and chased after Nick.
You hand held Jenna's tightly as Ronnie was catching up to Nick who was drifting the corners, however, Ronnie being the dirty player he was, cut before and right behind him.
"Yo! He can't do that," Lion yelled.
We backed him on the fact Ronnie cut.
"Bro, this man is such a sore bitch," you say frustrated and let go of the girls, walking forward. You saw on the stream how Ronnie tried to swerve into Nick, making Nick shift gears and speed up so Ronnie would miss. And that pissed Ronnie off more, that he was failing.
"Come on Nick," you whisper to yourself.
Nick was focused, drifting the last corner as Ronnie tried to bump him again but he stayed ahead, he knew what this car meant to you, but he also knew you both had to win this race.
If something happened to this car, he'd get it repaired or get you a new one.
Ronnie used his NOS to get ahead of Nick and then swerved to push him off track, but Nick anticipated that and got on the brakes as Ronnie swerved past before spinning, he lost control for 2 seconds and then regained it but he was too late.
Nick took that opportunity to step on the gas and use the NOS for a boost, successfully crossing the line first. You ran to your car where he drifted it to stop. He quickly got out of the car when he saw you running and ran to you.
You engulfed him in a tight hug, wrapping your arms around his neck as he wrapped around your waist, lifting you and spinning you around. He placed you back down, hugging you tightly and rested his head in the crook of your neck. You felt him smiling against you as you were too, you felt so relieved seeing him come back unharmed and safe.
"We did it love," he said as he pulled up to see your face, his arms staying wrapped around your waist as yours stayed around his neck.
"Holy shit, we did it." You both smiled brightly at each other before the sound of tires screeching to a stop near you and a door slamming shut made you both pull away.
Nick quickly moved you to stand behind him as Jenna and Noah came next to you while Lion and Landon were in front of Nick.
"Ronnie," Nick warned. Ronnie was coming to Nick, fueled with fury until someone yelled, "Cops!"
"This isn't over Nicky, you know I'll be keeping an eye on her! This isn't over for you or little miss," he yelled, warning him. That also caught your attention, when he mentioned you.
Lion and Jenna ran to their car as Landon grabbed Noah's and took her to his car. Nick's hand had found yours as he ushered you to the passenger side of your car before he got in the driver's side and sped out of the lot.
"Nick," you said softly.
"I know," he cut you off before you could continue, "Look, I know what you're going to say. Just hold off for a bit yeah? Until I reach the place."
A little while in silence later, he pulled into a spot at a viewpoint, overseeing the waters.
He gets out of the car before you can ask anything and jogs over to your door, opening it for you.
"I know you have questions, come on and let's talk yeah," he said while holding his hand out.
You take his hand and step out, as he closes your door behind you and leads you to sit on the hood of your car. He takes a seat next to you, still holding your hand.
You turn to see him already looking at you and you hold each other's gaze for a moment. Nick's eyes glistened under the light of the lamp post, as he looked at you with so much love and care.
"So, the fight with Ronnie," he starts, breaking the silence.
"As you heard, he's got eyes on you. He's been using you against me, threatened to do things to you if I didn't agree with the fight. Especially after you almost punched his lights out," he laughs and you smile hearing that, looking at the hand that you punched him with.
He brings that hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss.
"But since you did that, he feels the need to go after you for it. Especially after the race as well, he was executing a plan that he would get to you somehow, make you a part of his gang or whatever. A couple of inappropriate comments," he continued to explain with a bit of anger at the end.
The pieces fell in place as you thought about it.
"And then I was seen with you guys, which pissed him off as per usual cause he can't accept anything," you insult making Nick smile and his anger fade.
"So he's put a target on us," he finished.
"What a petty ass bitch," you add, making a face of disgust.
"But what about Maddie, Nick? You can't fight him," you remind him and he feels irritated with his mother's rules again.
"I hate her rules, I don't understand why she can't just accept it." He rolls his eyes.
You tilted your head, slightly annoyed with this behaviour towards his mother.
"Nick, she wants to keep Maddie away from knowing these things. You really want Maddie to grow up saying her brother's an illegal fighter, racer and then god forbid, she follows that route?" Nick's head snapped at you and you see his irritation rise.
"She doesn't need to know! She can hide this from Maddie," he argued.
"Nick, how are you going to see when your face is bruised, cut and swollen? How are you going to explain that? Are you going to going to lie to the little girl to the point she doesn't believe you anymore," you fought back.
"It won't go that far." He gets up, letting your hand go and begins to pace back and forth.
"How do you know that? How can you predict your future injuries," you pushed.
"You can let go of fighting him, whatever comes I can handle it," you finished.
"No you cannot," he said, his voice raising. He had one hand in his hair and you could feel the stress he had. However, this topic was getting on your nerves and his raising voice wasn't helping.
"Yes, I can Nick. I've done it before and I can do it again," you argue again.
"No Jay, you cannot," he yelled now looking at you.
"And why not," you yell back. You were so over this topic now and didn't see him stride forward to you.
He places his hands on both sides of your face and leans down bringing his face to be inches away from you.
"Because I am literally head over heels for you if you cannot see that. I can't let him, no, I won't let him come near you. I will never let anyone hurt you," he said softly, the anger and irritation disappearing from him as he then rested his forehead against yours.
"Nick," you softly say, placing your hands on both sides of his neck and your thumbs rubbing against his cheek. You felt him leaning into your touch as he continued speaking, "Jay, I fucking adore you so much."
You looked into his eyes as he was looking from your lips and to your eyes. You tilted your head up while looking at his lips, Nick leaning down more, his lips brushing yours.
Nick went to close the gap until his phone rang.
He groaned in annoyance and stood straight, answering the call with one hand while the other was caressing your cheek. You placed your hand over his, making him smile as he talked to Landon.
"Mate, you're interrupting my time right now," he said annoyed. You stifle a laugh and he continues, "Mate she is okay with me, tell Noah that. No, I don't want to talk to her, do not give her the damn phone. Oh my days Noah she is fine and with me."
He looked up at the sky, trying to keep his cool as Noah demanded to speak with you.
"Oh for the love of god, please speak to this girl before I lose it," he says, shoving the phone towards you while glaring at it.
You started laughing, taking the phone from him.
"Babe, I'm alright," you say on the phone as she rambles about how relieved she is hearing you're okay. Nick placed his hand back on the side he left which you leaned into.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Now let me call you later yeah? Yes, we're chatting about the Ronnie situation and no, you cannot know because the plan is still in thought. Alright, love you too." You hung up and looked at Nick.
"Put it on silent," he said as you laughed again, doing as he said.
"I meant what I said when we were at Mum's house. And now I'm going to prove it," he spoke softly, leaning down again.
"Am I yours though," you say quietly, looking into his eyes as his flickered to your lips, watching his brush against yours.
"You were mine from the day we met," he answered before pressing his lips against yours in a kiss.
