Chapter V - The Disregard

After clearing up the mess he had made earlier and seeing the disturbing cadaver of Butler Burns, Dr Lazer knew he had to describe the unknown enigma to Lord Horror Hill. He approached the Lord's office, cautious of which suspect he could meet along the way. Dr Lazer understood that if the murderer knew that he was about to tell Lord Horror Hill, he would be despised for eternity. He knocked lightly on the door.

"Come in, come in," Lord Horror Hill spoke in an impatient manner.

Taking a deep breath, he carefully pushed the door half open before stepping into the room. There was a couple of seconds of awkward silence until Dr Lazer spoke.

"Hello, master. I would like to politely explain that I saw something atrocious in the med bay. Butler Burns was lay solitary on the hospital bed. I decided to look and say my final goodbyes. I released the blanket from his body, and his eyes were gouged out - what looked like a thick white substance filled his mouth. I think this is the work of one of our Horror Hillians." Dr Lazer blurted out without pausing.

"I do not believe it! That cannot have happened - no Horror Hillian even went close to Butler Burns! Enough of this at once!" Lord Horror Hill spoke with a harsh tone.

Dr Lazer stood there in shock whilst he listened to what else the Lord had to say.

"Right, Dr Lazer, you go and help Sir Hollow Eyes with the meal we are preparing for tonight. Remember to keep it as a surprise for the rest of the Horror Hillians," Lord Horror Hill faintly spoke with a slight tone of annoyance.

"But Lord..." Dr Lazer elevated his voice.

"Follow your orders Dr Lazer, be a good Horror Hillian," Lord Horror Hill asserted.

Dr Lazer widened his undersized eyes, shocked at Lord Horror Hill's response. Dr Lazer was liked by many Horror Hillians and was quite timid, so he was surprised to hear Lord Horror Hill talking to him in such an irritated manner. A slight sense of bewilderment shone in Dr Lazer's eyes. His puzzled face looked like a sad dog begging at its owner. He decided to prove his point. Frightened at this new behaviour of Lord Horror Hill, Dr Lazer once again pleaded for the Lord to believe him.

"May I courteously clarify my point, Lord Horror Hill; I do think we have a murderer living amongst us. The gouged eyes, the sporadic hair - it shows all, doesn't it."

"Exit my office at once! Speak no more of this, Dr Lazer," Lord Horror Hill thundered across the room.

Hunched forward, Dr Lazer quietly shuffled out of the ornate office and reflected on his conversation with the Lord. Thinking as if he had disrespected him, Dr Lazer sorrowfully proceeded down the hallway and towards the majestic food hall.
