Salvatore returned to the hood to find her along the way he got word that Haywire's baby mama, Chicken wasn't too far from the area. They ended up pulling up on the frail dark skin lady, searching through the trash bags.
She scratched her forearms as an all-black truck parked at the end of the alleyway.
One of the tinted windows rolled down revealing Salvatore in the backseat along with his weapon toting right hand, Dru.
Before Chicken could think of a response they were already throwing her inside. Where they proceeded to question her about the whereabouts of Haywire and his crew in exchange for hard rock.
She couldn't resist and went blabbering off at the mouth once her brown eyes saw that good shit in the plastic wrapping. It was practically calling her name which caused her to sweat all over.
Once she provided enough information, they let her out with the promise that they'd keep her habit supplied if she kept them updated.
She agreed.
Salvatore leaned over whispering to Dru. Ordering a hit on Haywire's home and in a matter of minutes, bullets were making way through the windows and doors of the Richards place—even though no one was home that unfortunately didn't stop a life from being taking away.
Little Mikey Carson was in the middle of riding his brand-new big wheel when he was shot numerous times in the drive-by on the corner of the neighborhood.
His mother, Samantha raced from their family store upon hearing the hailstorm of bullets fade out and that was when she spotted what no parent wanted to see. But plenty of parents in these parts of Chicago were used to witnessing things like it.
Why Samantha or her husband Dan thought they'd be exceptions since purchasing and reopening a grocery store in the hood was still a mystery.
She now understood why there were so many abandoned buildings and homes in the area. Samantha cried over a lifeless Mikey until the red sirens raced from around the corner. And she shut his blue eyes right as Sam's brown ones opened for the day. She and Rondo went to the local McDonald's for breakfast. There they used the store's electricity to charge their phones.
Also it was there, they were both bombarded by hundreds of text messages and voicemails asking about their whereabouts.
Sam pursed her plump lips then slyly sat her phone to the side. "So do you school around here?" she made small talk but Rondo's head was down at his phone. She had to loudly call his name to get his attention before repeating her question.
"Nah, I dropped out, and why you wanna know you the feds or something?" he poured syrup over his egg mcmuffin before stuffing his mouth.
She chewed again into her cheese bagel. "You funny..."
"What about you?" he continued eating while checking his phone from time to time.
"I'm homeschooled!"
That made him laugh for the first time she had seen that and loved the way his skin contrasted with his bright, white teeth. But this gesture disappeared just as quickly as it had shown up as his jaw tighten when a group of three guys walked in.
She noticed these boys from coming by her place.
Now only if they remembered her was a whole different story. Sam hid her face thinking maybe her father had sent them. Rondo had noticed this strange action but thought it was just her being awkward.
She turned her head the other way and finished what she could of her food.
Rondo ate a little more then stood to leave just like that. "I gotta head out."
She licked her fingers then grabbed a napkin. "Coo but drop me off!"
On their way out the door, the guys started hollering things over at Rondo. Sam turned around and gave them all a death glare. Which shocked them to see her with him, the enemy.
They were both unaware of what was going on between their families. News of Mikey's death made headlines around the city as they left out. Once Rondo dropped her off, he headed to a family home to speak with his father—Haywire.
They were standing around planning retaliation tonight.
Rondo walked in after being lead by his little cousin, Lil Dada. "Ight! Where my dollar?" Lil Dada asked as Rondo dug through his pockets. Pulling out nothing but his hand that he used to push the child away before going on inside.
Haywire stood with his hands out to the sides as Rondo hesitantly went over for a hug. They had the news and blunts going inside of the den. "What you too old to show your old man some love nigga?" Haywire questioned.
Rondo took a seat and started rolling up. "What's so important y'all want me down here?"
"Chubs is dead and them same fuckers who killed him are after us." Haywire further explained then blew some smoke. "They just turned the crib into target practice."
"Right and they ended up popping a lil white kid while doing that now that shits all over the news." Another guy, Slice said from the couch. "That's the difference between us and them we ain't no sloppy shooters." He cocked the Glock he carried.
"It was Salvatore niggas." Ego spoke.
"I'ma make that cornbread colored motherfucker suffer on my mama!" Haywire promised.
"Fuck that his bitch and kids too." Someone else said. "He got two, a boy and a girl named Samore, Sam, or some shit she be around here alla damn time. It's just recently I haven't been seeing the lil bitch. He probably moved them on out the way like we not gon find they whereabouts and air that shit out."
Rondo lowered his blunt after hearing that not believing his own ears.
