"Sayori!"

I turned around, seeing a white staircase descending from the top of the room as a familiar voice came down the stairs.

"Sana?" I looked to see my older sister.

I felt my throat start to swell and my eyes sting as the memories flooded me.

Sana. At the age of 12, Sana and I's parents died, leaving us alone. Sana, newly turned 18, had to balance college and take care of me along with bills. My sister, the last person I was connected to through blood.

"Sana, what's going on."

"Sayori, you need to make a decision."

"A decision for what? Where am I?"

"Come here, sit down."

I sat on the couch next to her in front of the tv as Kori climbed onto my lap.

The tv projected the last memory I had. It was us in a car talking.

"Wait, that was today."

"Yeah, now watch."

Flashback

Today Sana and I were spending the day together. I had been in my own world with Kaisen recently, and I needed to hang out with Sana.

"You wanna do our nails first?" Sana suggested.

I looked down at my nails that desperately needed to be done.

"Yeah."

We held a conversation while laughing as we approached a red light.

Once the light turned green, Sana began to take off, but a car from the right cut her off, almost hitting us.

"Shit!" Sana slammed on the breaks.

"Damn, my heart dropped," I said, trying to catch my breath.

Sana nodded and began driving again when another car came full speed from the left of us.

"SANA!" I screamed as the car seemed to be coming in slow motion.

The car slammed Sana's side of the car immediately, and I screamed as the car flipped over and over again. Once the flipping stopped, I felt myself slowly losing conscience.

"Sana." I slurred. I started freaking out, not getting a response.

Flashback Over

My mouth was dry as I finally remembered.

"I'm dead Sayori," Sana said, turning towards me.

"What do you mean dead?"

"I died as soon as the car hit me."

"I'm dead?" I asked just above a whisper.

"No, you're not dead," Sana said, further confusing me.

"So what am I?"

"Middle ground."
