"What's this?" Saris asked as Serena pulled up to a store.

"Beauty supply store. You've never been to one?"

"No ma'am. It's like makeup?"

"Yes makeup, clothes, wigs, hair products, everything pretty much." Serena explained as she put the car in park.

Saris was confused, but not in her normal way. She had understood everything that was said, but how could one store sell all of that? Saris ignored her thoughts and followed Serena into the store. Serena immediately got a buggy and began walking with Saris following her.

Saris looked around in shock almost as she saw that the store indeed had clothes, makeup, wigs, and hair products in one place.

"Ok, so do you want braids or your natural hair? We can get a wig too." Serena looked over to Saris.

"I haven't done anything but my real hair." Saris chewed on her bottom lip as she looked around the large store.

"It's ok, I'll buy you products for your hair and you can look into the braids and stuff by yourself and ask questions if you have any."

"Yes ma'am." Saris smiled and followed Serena.

They talked about Saris's hair and bought things similar to what Serena liked because they had similar curl patterns. When they were done Saris felt more informed and even closer to Serena then she had before.

Getting back in the car Serena made her way to a wing and burger spot nearby to eat lunch.

"How many?" the hostess asked as they approached the station.

"Two." Serena answered.

The hostess grabbed two silverware sets and guided the two to a table.

"Here you go, your server will be here shortly." the hostess spoke before leaving.

"I have something to ask you and I want you to tell me what you think about it, ok?" Serena spoke to Saris waiting for the signal to continue.

Saris slowly nodded and began racking her brain of the possibilities. She had been having a lot more serious conversations recently and it was definitely different for her and everyone else in the family.

"Your dad and I were thinking of looking into options to make you feel more comfortable with our situation. Mrs. Hernandez recommended therapy and we've been looking at different options and we found one and booked an appointment. You don't have to go more than once if you don't like it, but do you think you could just go to one and see what it's about?"

"Um ok." Saris spoke.

Serena mentally sighed, realizing she was speaking low again. After observing she realized Saris did that when she was being reserved.

"Baby I promise I won't even leave the waiting room when you go and you can leave and never go back if you hate it."

"I have to go alone?"

"No, your dad or I can sit in."

"Can Tylear?"

"Of course, I'll ask him."

Before Saris could respond the waiter approached the table. Serena realized the googly eyes he was making towards Saris as he got distracted while they were ordering.

Serena slightly chuckled at how oblivious Saris was to the boy thinking it was cute.

Saris's alarm went off signaling that it was time to wake up. Today was her first day at her new school and she was anxious about the entire thing.

She walked into her bathroom, took a shower, and finished the rest of her hygiene. When she was done she rewrapped the towel around her body and walked to her closet. Picking out a pair of jeans, a light brown shirt, and some white shoes she put those on, admiring the outfit in the mirror.

It was simple like most of the things she usually wore, but she felt like she had a different look about herself.

Saris took the bonnet off her head revealing her braids. She had never had them before, both the bonnet and braids. Serena did her hair last night and Saris loved how they looked. She also loved the idea of the bonnet and how the hair was kept out of her face the entire night.

When Saris was done touching up her edges she grabbed her backpack and walked down the stairs.

"Good morning." she spoke when she walked into the dining room.

Everyone sat around the table eating what Serena had cooked that morning.

"Good morning! Oh look at you, lemme see." Serena said getting up and examining Saris's hair and outfit.

Saris nervously bit her lip as Serena observed her.

"So cute." Serena slightly squealed, causing Saris to smile.

Jayceon was at the table cheesing too seeing how happy Serena was. He knew how bad she wanted a girl for these exact moments.

"Ok go sit at the table and I'll fix your plate." Serena said before rushing towards the kitchen.

Saris took the seat by Tylear and sat down. She took her phone out of her back pocket and began to fiddle with it. Her 5c stopped taking updates a long time ago so all the features with her new phone confused her.

"Ty." she tapped Tylear's shoulder, "How do you work this?" she asked.

Tylear explained the best he could to Saris but she still wasn't fully getting it.

"I still don't understand the camera."

""Imma show you real quick, stand up."

"Can you take my picture?"

"Sure, what for?"

"I want to see what I look like."

"Ok hurry and pose or whatever." he chuckled.

[A/N: work with me here, imagine braids and ignore the LV bag and headband]

"That's it?" he asked.

Before Saris could answer Serena came out cheering Saris on.

"Do another one and pose like this." she did a pose and leaned forward a little.

"Mmcht don't listen to her." Both Jayceon and Tylear said at the same time.

Saris smiled and did it anyway, and Serena took the phone from Tylear and took a photo.

"Ok go eat now before y'all leave." Serena said.

Saris sat down and ate as everyone spoke around her. She chewed on her last piece of bacon as Jayceon told her some rules.

"If you feel uncomfortable call me or your mom and we'll come right over, ok?"

"Yes sir."

"And no boys." Kourtney spoke up.

"Too late." Serena spoke.

All the boys snapped their necks at Serena then Saris. Saris looked up, confused.

"What I do?" she whispered.

"Nothing, yesterday when we went to eat the waiter couldn't take his eyes off her. My daughter just so pretty." Serena swiped her hand under her chin, laughing.

"Hell nah, let a lil boy talk to you lemme know so I can embarrass him." Jayceon spoke with a mug and Serena smacked his shoulder.

"Ok the ones that need to go to school, get ready so y'all can go." Serena spoke, gathering all the plates.

Saris got up and grabbed the backpack and followed Nehemiah and Tylear to the front door.

"Bye." she spoke, hugging her mom and dad and leaving out the door.

Nehemiah had his own car he got for his birthday last year and drove him and Tylear to school every day. Now Saris is included.

Saris seemed to forget about how nervous she was during breakfast but now her stomach slightly hurt and her heart was pounding.

When they pulled up to the school and got out the car, she rubbed her sweaty palms on her pants. Walking to the front office it seemed as i'd everyone was staring at them. It was almost the end of the school year so everyone was confused about the new student.

Walking up to the front desk Saris saw a black lady behind a computer.

"How may I help- oh Nehemiah and Tylear what y'all need babies?" the lady at the front office asked.

"We need to talk to Ms. Shaley, is she here?"

"Yes, go on back."

We walked behind the desk and approached this colorful organized office.

"What's this?" Saris whispered to Nehemiah.

"The counselor." he spoke as they entered the room and a lady looked up from the screen.

"Hi, your parents called and told me about your transfer. I have your schedule here." She handed Saris a paper and she checked her schedule.

Saris looked at all the classes realizing she already took them.

"Excuse me but I took all these last year." she spoke above a whisper.

"I'm sorry I called up your school and this was their curriculum for your grade."

"I was in the honors classes and programs there. They have a different curriculum."

"Oh, I apologize. I'll call them again and get your correct schedule but for now you can have the same one as Tylear. You'll show her around right?" she looked at Tylear.

"Yes ma'am."

"Ok so that's clear. Anything else?"

"What about her id and allat?" Nehemiah asked.

"She really doesn't need one. I'll give her a special card so she can get lunch but other than that school is about to end anyway."

After leaving the office the bell rang and Nehemiah went in another direction, waving bye to his siblings.

"Pay attention to where your classes are just in case your schedule does change ok? Saris nodded and followed Tylear down the hall. They walked all the way down the end and turned right to a separate hallway.

"This is the junior pod. It holds all your normal classes besides electives and PE."

Saris looked at the math, science, and english posters that were hung on the wall. They walked to a door decorated with math equations and Tylear knocked. A student opened the door and Tylear walked in with Saris following.

Everyone sat down at their table with a paper in front of them. When they heard the door open and close they all turned to look at Saris and whispering was heard.

The teacher snapped twice "Aht aht back to your bell ringer"

Everyone went back to what they were doing as the teacher came up to the two.

"Good morning Tylear and..."

"Saris." Saris answered as the teacher nodded with a smile.

"Mrs. Hebert, this is my sister Saris, she just transferred here."

"That's wonderful. I hope you like it here!" she turned her attention to the class, "Class, this is Saris she will be joining us for the rest of the year. Make her feel welcomed." then she turned back to Saris, "Saris you can take a seat beside Ashley, Ashley raise your hand."

Mrs. Hebert handed both Sarie and Tylear a paper and the girl Ashley raised her hand. As Saris went to the desk by Ashley, Tylear went the opposite way by a group of boys.

Saris looked at the paper, noticed that it was the bell ringer everyone else was doing. She scanned her eyes at the problems on the page and immediately started solving them. They were either just starting this unit or they were about to.

"Hey 'scuse me." Ashley tapped Saris's shoulder.

"Yes?" Saris asked.

"You just got it, how do you know what to do?"

"I learned this already, do you need help?"

"Please?" Ashley asked and Saris turned around to help her.

After giving instructions on what to do Ashley got her answer and circled it.

"Thank you so much you probably just saved my ass for this entire unit." Ashley said.

"No problem, it's easy once you get started."

"Ok class let's get started!" Mrs. Hebert clapped her hands together.

"Don't forget to turn in your worksheets by Friday. Have a good day!" The English teacher spoke before releasing the students for lunch.

Saris packed up her things and followed the students out of the class. Saris had been in half her classes so far and now it was time for lunch.

She followed the crowd to the cafeteria and looked around her. Every table was seemed full of people and the lunch lines were almost in the main hallway. Saris sighed and walked towards the end of the line before Tylear pulled her in his direction.

"What's wrong?" Saris asked, confused.

"Nothing, I wanted to give you your lunch."

"My lunch?" she asked as she sat at a table with Tylear.

"Momma texted me that you left your lunch on the counter."

"She made me lunch?"

"Yeah but I'll give you mine."

"No this is your food, what are you gonna eat."

"Imma be good lil bit."

"No." Saris spoke before splitting the sandwich in half.

"Thanks." Tylear mumbled as he bit into his sandwich.

When school was over Saris followed Tylear as they made their way to the gym.

"Where are we going?" Saris asked.

"Miah and I have basketball practice. I can find somewhere for you to stay or you can hang out with us in the gym with."

"I can stay with y'all." she spoke.

As they walked into the gym, players were already there warming up. When they saw Saris they began staring, causing Saris to stick closer to Tylear.

They walked to the table that controlled the scoreboard, where the Coach was sitting.

"Coach." Tylear spoke, gaining his attention.

"Wassup?"

"I was wondering if my sister could stay in the gym. Her ride home is with us."

"Yeah, look she can sit here, we bout to start." Coach got up and motioned for Saris to sit.

She thanked him and smiled before sitting. She looked down on her phone and played around with it before she heard a 'hey'.

She looked up and saw a girl who grabbed a seat and sat next to her.

"I'm Alyssa." the girl spoke.

"Saris."

"Are you helping out?"

"With what?" Saris asked.

"The team, sorry I thought you were becoming a team manager."

"Oh no, my brothers are on the team."

"Who are your brothers?" Alyssa asked.

"Nehemiah and Tylear."

"I didn't know they had a sister."

Saris awkwardly nodded, not knowing how to respond. As the practice continued Saris learns that Alyssa was a manager and she stayed for most of the practices and games.

When practice ended Saris told Alyssa bye, and followed the boys out the gym. Saris saw a flier on the school door as they left.

"There's a volleyball team?" Saris said to herself but both Nehemiah and Tylear overheard.

"Yeah the season is over but try-outs for next year are Thursday and Friday." Nehemiah said.

"You trying out?" Tylear asked.

"Should I?" she asked them looking at their faces.

She wanted their real responses. She played once in 6th grade but Clara made her quit after saying she was wasting her money.

"Of course." Nehemiah and Tylear spoke. Saris smiled seeing how genuine they were.

"Ok I will."

Once they arrived home, they all split to do their own things. Saris took a shower and sat in bed doing homework. For it to be her "first day" she got a lot of homework, but she didn't mind.

She sat cross-legged on her bed doing math problems when Tylear knocked on the door.

"Yeah?" she called out.

"You doing Hebert's work?" he perked his head in.

"Yeah, you need help?"

"Yeah."

He further opened the door with his binder in his hand. Saris scooted over and made room for Tylear to sit on the bed.

This was one of the things Saris always wanted. A friend, let alone a best friend so they could have moments like this. The total opposite from what she had in Dallas, she now had a friend that she could get things done with and not her doing everything herself.

In the short time Tylear and Saris had been around each other they had become close like they were never separated.

"Dinner's ready!" Serena yelled.
