"Who is this playing?" Saris asked, as she sat in the car with Kourtney.
She decided to spend individual time with her brothers to get close with them and today was her day with Kourtney. They had been to the mall and out to eat today so their day together was coming to an end.
"Youngboy, why you like it lil bit?" he asked.
She nodded as she listened to the song and Kourtney turned it up speeding down the street.
"Slow down, the police." Saris said holding on to the door handle, causing Kourtney to laugh and go faster.
"One mo' stop then we can go home lil bit." Kourtney said taking a right.
Saris nodded as she sat back and bopped her head to the beat of the song. A little while later they pulled up to an apartment complex and Kourtney parked.
"Who lives here?" Saris asked as she looked at her surroundings.
"My son."
"You have a kid?" Saris asked as her eyes widened.
She had been around her brothers for a while now and this was the first she was hearing about Kourtney having a son.
Kourtney chuckled, "You ain't see that carseat in the back?"
Saris turned and saw the carseat that was there, "That's been there all day?"
Kourtney laughed and shook his head before getting out of the car.
"Wait here." he simply said before approaching a girl who was sitting at the end of the stairs with a dingy satin robe and a full face of makeup.
Kourtney took the carseat and without a word began walking back to the car. He opened the backseat and began buckling the baby in before closing the door again. Saris turned to smile at the little baby before turning back around.
Once she faced the front again her eyes met the girl at the end of the stairs. She was staring at Saris before she rushed over to Kourtney and began yelling.
"So we just have random bitches around my son?!"
"Huh-" Kourtney followed the girl's eyes and realized she was talking about Saris, "I know you not talm bout my sister. Get the fuck on." he waved her off.
"Aht aht, give me my son back nigga!" she began to attempt to open the doors to the back seat.
"B- Nadia leave MY son in the car." Kourtney emphasized the 'my'.
"Trust and believe this is your last time seeing him, I'm taking you to court!" she threatened.
"No, I'm taking YOU to court. Look at my son man, you have him looking uncared for while you scratching your arm like you on some shit."
The girl looked taken back before she began yelling again. Kourtney ignored her this time and got back in the car before driving out. Saris took notice in how his jaw was clenched as he tightly held the steering wheel so she decided to look out the window and leave him alone.
"I'm sorry lil bit. It's okay if you don't want to talk, just nod or something and let me know you're ok." Kourtney said.
After Saris attended her therapy session Jayceon and Serena sat all the boys down and gave them a brief explanation. They gave them the basics so they could all help Saris reach her true self. Kourtney was afraid that the yelling might've triggered bad memories in Saris so he apologized.
"I'm ok, are you?"
"Yeah, just wish Coby had a better mother."
"That's his name?" Saris asked.
"Yeah, Jacoby."
Coby began kicking his feet and giggling, causing Kourtney and Saris to smile.

As soon as Nehemiah put the car in park Saris hopped out of the car and rushed into the school. Nehemiah and Tylear turned to each other confused as they followed and tried to keep up with her.
Saris ran immediately to the gym and to the hallway to read the volleyball roster. She was hoping to make the JV team. Although most going into their senior year would want to be on varsity, she knew she hadn't played in years and most likely would not be on that team.
There were some girls around the paper and some cheered as others huffed and left. Saris finally made it to where she could read the paper and she slightly frowned as she saw the last names go from A to C.
She stepped back a little as her eyes stung. She blinked trying to stop the tears from coming up and checked over the paper once more. She quickly realized how the names were in alphabetical order by first name. As her eyes trailed down she saw her name on the list under varsity. She gasped before smiling wide.
"Ouuu we're on the same team." the girl, Nya said before giving Saris a hug.
Saris gave her one back as she saw her brothers walking up.
"Why you running?" Nehemiah asked looking around.
"I made the varsity team!" she cheered smiling.
Nehemiah smiled back proud of his sister and looked over to a stuck Tylear whose eyes were glued to Nya. Nehemiah nudged him bringing him back to reality.
"Congrats lil bit." he said.
"Imma go now friend, but you want to go with me and my friend Des to waffle house after school?" Nya spoke.
Saris looked over to her brothers who were nodding, encouraging her to go.
"Yeah, I can meet y'all here when the last bell rings." Saris said before Nya nodded and ran off.
—
"You ready?" Nya asked as Saris approached her and the other girl.
"Yes." Saris smiled.
"Saris this is Destiny, Des this is Saris." Nya introduced the two.
After they became familiar and introductions were done they all got into Nya's car. Saris looked out the window as they rode in the car since she was in the backseat. She was glad she was getting out of her comfort zone and being social. She was actually surprised at how fast she had found friends.
Nya was playing music loudly as her and Destiny sang it.
"I still want my goal." Nya sung pointing at Des.
"I still want my goal back." Des sang back and they continued the back and forth.
"Come on, baby, throw that." they sang together before laughing.
Nya quickly glanced at Saris in the back and lowered down the song.
"Friend, why you not singing?" Nya asked.
"I don't know this song." Saris spoke.
Nya gasped before stopping at the red light.
"You don't know Ms. Summer?!" Nya asked in disbelief.
"No, I don't really listen to music."
"I'm making a group chat right now so Nya and I can spam you with songs." Destiny said.
Saris chuckled before nodding her head. The song changed and Nya gasped before turning the music volume again.
"Is this youngboy?" Saris asked.
"Ouu whatchu know bout yb?" Des teased.
"My brother was listening to his music yesterday." Saris laughed.

Once they finished eating they left and went back to the school. Today was the last basketball game of the season, also Nehemiah's last highschool game.
The bleachers were full of parents, teachers, and students who came to see the game and players. Nya and Des took a seat in the bleachers as Saris went to sit by Kourtney, D'aire, and her parents.
"I'm so proud! I saw you made some friends." Serena happily said before pulling Saris into a tight hug.
Saris giggled before nodding and giving everyone else a quick hug. As the game shortly began after the players were introduced and came out from different sides of the court. People cheered as others began talking about how attractive some of the players were.
As the game was close to ending it was clear that Nehemiah's team was going to win. The other team was losing badly. They only had one good player who was getting all the points for them.
As one minute was left on the clock Tylear was able to give the ball to Nehemiah who attempted a three pointer and made it. The crowd cheered as the clock loudly beeped signaling the end of the game.
Everyone stood up including Saris as she looked at the other team. They all walked off the court mad as the one who was getting all the points sat down and put his head in his hands.
Saris stared, observing him. She felt somewhat sad for him as he was actually trying and his team wasn't trying to help him. Saris stared too long as the boy quickly looked up and they locked eyes.
Saris quickly looked away, embarrassed.
"C'mon Saris, let's get your brothers so we can go eat." Serena said, causing Saris to nod and follow her.

"Nehemiah Brooks."
Nehemiah got up walking across the stage accepting his diploma.
Today was graduation day and everyone was excited. The entire family was proud of Nehemiah for balancing school and basketball, helping him get a full scholarship to play at UCLA.
Although it was going to be hard for him to leave D'aire had also gotten a job offer in LA so they knew he wouldn't be alone.
Although Saris and Tylear were excited to see their older brothers succeeding, they were both sad in different ways about their departure.
Tylear had been around his brothers his entire life and for two of them to be leaving was hard on him. Saris hadn't been around her brothers her entire life and felt like she just met them and now they were leaving. It was just another of those moments she missed, but she was grateful for the time they did have.
"Alyssa Richard."
Alyssa got up walking across the stage. Alyssa had also been accepted into UCLA with her boyfriend. What no one did know was that her boyfriend was Nehemiah.
Since she was the manager of the basketball team they were able to form a bond during the bus rides and during practices. Both of them were lowkey people do it only made sense for only them to know about their relationship.
After the ceremony was finished everyone made their way outside to meet with the graduates.
Saris stood by her brothers joking around as they all waited for Nehemiah to meet them.
"Saris come see real quick." Serena called for her.
Saris looked over to see her holding a phone to her ear. As Saris approached her she removed it from her ear.
"It's for you." she handed the phone before walking over to Jayceon.
"Hello?" Saris answered after hearing silence on the other side.
"Babygirl?" the man on the other side spoke.
"Dad?" Saris asked, as she felt her breath get caught in her throat.
Shawn chuckled before sighing, "Yeah it's me. I know it took me forever to contact you and I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apol-"
"No, I do. My pride has stopped me from saying this sooner and it's time I do. When I divorced Clara I found out you weren't mine and assumed she cheated. I should've questioned and maybe you would've been with your family all along." he admitted.
"Don't say that." Saris frowned, "I would've missed out on this relationship with you. Although not biological you are also my father. You gave me a reason to continue day by day in that house because I felt the love from one other person no matter the distance."
"Just remember that you can always call me. Don't depend on me, you have your family now and I know they provide you with everything you ever deserved. I love you." Shawn spoke.
"Love you too." Saris spoke before hanging up.
Saris felt her eyes begin to sting as tears threatened to appear. She heard cheering causing her to turn around and see her family all hugging Nehemiah.
Her tears were pushed to the back as she walked up to them and handed Serena her phone back.
"Everything okay?" she asked, slightly concerned.
"Yes." Saris spoke before giving her a hug. It took Serena by surprise but she quickly responded back with a hug.
"I love you momma." Saris spoke, causing Serena to freeze.
It was the first time Saris had addressed her with a name at all. Serena took notice in how Saris would find ways to get her attention without calling her mom.
"I love you too." Serena hugged her tighter as tears fell down her face.
"What y'all crying over here for?" Jayceon asked with his eyebrows furrowed.
"I love you too pops." Saris spoke, hugging him also.
Jayceon choked up as he hugged her and kissed the top of her head.
